BINGO REPORT

I’d like to let the membership know our Bingo program is doing well. Attendance is up significantly from a year ago as is our profit. I want to thank everyone who has volunteered their time in the past year to make this happen. Without all of our volunteers – those working the line, selling pull tabs, calling, selling concessions, cashiering, and working the floor - we could not run our Bingo program. Your hard work allows the Lodge to continue our charitable endeavors. I am particularly grateful for those who have stepped up to the plate to help me following Peter’s death. Gail Stansberry, Pat Cave, Sharon Dunfrund and Ed Camper have all helped me with the management of Bingo and I could not do it without them. Thanks also to Bob Goolrick for continuing the very time consuming job of completing all of the paperwork required by the Charitable Gaming Commission.

Having said that, we are always looking for more volunteers. In the past couple of months we have had some of our new members come out and volunteer. We will train you for any job you’d like to do. Some people work weekly, some once or twice a month, and some are on an as needed basis. Whatever fits your schedule is fine. If you haven’t seen our Bingo operation, stop by some Monday or Thursday and find out what it’s all about

Veteran’s committee, chaired by Linda Buskirk, visited the WWII Memorial in DC on 10 Nov 2010. The group of Elks from our lodge included two WWII vets!

Pictures below are from our Annual Holiday Basket and Coat Giveaway headed by Lisa Stevens. Picture on left features Anthony Barrero, Ken Hensley and Susan Mekenney. Picture on the right features Mary Graves and her friend Barbara, a non-Elk who shared many hours of service on Nov 23, 2010. 272 people were fed and received coats thanks to the generosity of our members and friends, especially the Fairfax County Fire Department who donated new coats; member John Sullivan for donating hats and scarves; member Pat Graves for donating diapers and new coats; members Sandy Mueller and Mark Richards for additional donations of canned food to “beef-up” our baskets, and member and Treasurer Diane Kaplon for being there very early to write checks. Volunteers at the Lodge included (besides those pictured below) Barbara Marshall, Kathy Showker, Jonathan Mekenney, Sharon Dunfrund, Ray Helms, Pat Graves, Karin Mackintosh, Alex Barrero, Catherine Barrero, and Lisa Stevens. And many thanks to Janie, for the donuts and morning coffee. We couldn’t have done it without all of you!
